Melbourne, Wednesday 31 August 2011: It was a case of two winners are better than one when Better Place drew the prize for the competition it ran at the recent Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne. Wodonga teen Angus Bergman will take home the $5,000 cash prize - however at just 12 years of age he’s a little young to collect the second part; so it will be his Mum and Dad who receive an exclusive VIP test drive of the new Renault Fluence ZE.

The Fluence ZE is the world’s first electric car with unlimited range due to its innovative battery switching technology. Better Place ran the competition to highlight the news that the all-electric Fluence ZE will arrive in Australia next year, initially in Canberra for Better Place’s first customers, with general sales due to commence towards the end of the year.

Angus isn’t complaining; he’s over the moon about his $5,000 windfall and thinks he might like to buy an iPad2 and put the rest of the money in the bank.

“I’m really excited to win the competition – I think electric cars are perfect for commuting. They’re very quiet and I like that you can charge them when they’re parked. I wanted to visit the Better Place stand because of the technology they had on display, including the Charge Spots you can plug in to, and the demonstration of switch-and-go, where you can switch over your empty battery for a full one and keep driving”, said Angus.

Angus’ parents are delighted they’ll be some of the first people in Australia to drive the Fluence ZE when the cars arrive in the country.

“We’re looking forward to the opportunity, because we love the development of electric cars and we think that they will be a serious consideration for us in the not too distant future. We already own a gas car and a petrol guzzler, so the idea of being able to reduce our impact on the environment is great – especially knowing that the electricity comes from renewable sources. It’s fantastic to see there is already a Better Place charge spot in Albury!” said Angus’ father, Gavin Bergman.

But it could be a case of getting his cake and eating it too, as Angus intends to accompany his parents on the test drive – so he’s working hard on his backseat driving skills in preparation.
