Fleet FAQ

  • Why wouldn't I just charge my fleet using a standard power outlet?

The Better Place charge network offers the following advantages:

Saves time: our Charge Spots charge faster than using standard vehicles cables.

Guaranteed zero emissions: all energy supplied by Better Place is 100% renewable

Fixed energy costs: eliminates concern over petrol and electricity price fluctuations.

Safety: electricity will only flow once a safe connection is made by an authorised driver

Security: RFID authentication eliminates unauthorised use. Particularly important in shared parking areas.

Future-proofed: our Charge Spots can deliver both single and three phase charging.

Separate billing: energy charges do not appear on your home/office energy bill eliminating the need for messy expense claims.

    Detailed monthly usage reporting.

  • Are Charge Spots safe?

Yes. All charging equipment is certified and fully compliant with the relevant Australian safety standards. They will only energise if operational, cable connections are secure, and a valid member card has been used.
  • Can you support my need for multiple sites?

Yes. Our fleet consultants are expert at developing a multi-site infrastructure solution that can scale to your fleet’s needs.
  • Do electric cars still produce emissions?

Because our infrastructure is separately metered and we only supply 100% renewable energy, your fleet can be truly emissions free, even if your drivers are charging at home.
  • Do I have to manage the Charge Spots at my offices?

No. Better Place manages the installation, operation and maintenance of Charge Spots so that you can focus on managing your fleet.
  • Do I need to pay a lot upfront for charging equipment?

Better Place offers the flexibility of zero upfront cost packages, with installation costs spread over the life of the subscription, or packages with upfront costs but lower ongoing costs.
  • Do you support the Nissan Leaf?

Yes. We support all mass-produced electric cars with a plug, including the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Nissan Leaf and the Holden Volt. We will also support the Renault Fluence Z.E. when it's available on the Australian market.
The benefit for fleet managers is that you only need one infrastructure provider to optimally service all vehicles.

  • How can drivers extend their driving range using the Better Place network?

Charge Spots, at home or work, allow drivers to start the day with a ‘full tank’ of electricity. Cars can be topped up using publicly available Express Chargers or Charge Spots located in shopping centres, offices, hotels and public car parks. Renault Fluence Z.E. drivers will also be able to instantaneously extend their driving range with Better Place Battery Switch Stations.
  • How will my drivers find a Charge Spot?

All Better Place charging locations will be displayed on in-vehicle navigation systems, our website and via smartphone applications.

  • What are the benefits of battery switching?

With battery switchable cars, Better Place provides the battery as part of the subscription. By taking on the battery risks, we significantly reduce the upfront cost of the vehicle, minimise depreciation costs and positively impact on residual values. In addition, your drivers get the convenience of instantaneous range extension via our Battery Switch Stations …ensuring maximum time on the road.
