Comprehensive charge network
Most cars are parked for over 20 hours a day so why not use that time to keep yours going? We’re rolling out an extensive network of convenient and reliable Charge Spots to keep your car topped up, whether you're at home or out and about. Additionally, Express Chargers and Battery Switch Stations will be available publicy to keep you going when you're on the road.
Range Extension
Longer journeys are no issue with a switchable battery car. Just switch your empty battery for a full one at a Battery Switch Station, in less time than it takes to fill up with petrol. Our Battery Switch Stations use an ingenious robotic system to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, cool and recharge batteries in inventory, and manage the logistics to ensure that each electric car gets a fully charged battery each time it arrives at a station. Battery Finance
Better Place supply the battery for switchable-battery cars, so your car costs a whole lot less to buy. You simply pay a low monthly membership fee that covers your battery and energy use. Better Place will own and manage a portfolio of lithium-ion batteries. This reduces the upfront cost of an electric vehicle and ensures that drivers will always have access to a high performance battery. No risks, no worries.
100% GreenPower
It's now easy being green. Better Place only purchases 100% GreenPower for our network. We’re also acting as a driver for renewable energy demand. We will ensure the supply of green electricity is there for us by signing long term purchase agreements that will enable developers of renewable generators to get the finance they need to build. We will also use our network management software and the storage capacity of our car batteries to match our demand for electricity to the available supply of green electricity.
This matching capacity helps renewable generators like wind and solar plants because it means there is always a high value customer for their power, even when broader market demand is low. This will help renewable energy become an even greater component of the Australian electricity grid.
Oscar™
Oscar™, our in-car driver support system, is a driver’s best friend. It manages your battery charging needs, ensuring you get to your destination conveniently. Oscar™ includes energy monitoring, energy planning, navigation, and support for charging and battery switch. Collectively, these services provide drivers with information about their battery’s state of charge, route planning and range monitoring, advice about when and where they will need to charge, and live customer support services. Handling all the complex stuff, so you just drive.
Energy Management
We manage our entire network remotely, monitoring any malfunctions and working quickly to rectify them. Better Place network software will ensure the system is simple and cost effective for drivers while minimising impact on the electricity grid. Our network software can also communicate with electricity partners in real-time, allowing them to optimise the allocation of energy based on available supply and electric car drivers’ demand.
